Here is a little advise on what to look for when researching a veternarian (remember this is just my little ole opinion based on experiences that I have endured).

While searching for a reputable veternarian, please make sure you get references. In my experience, not all vets have their priorities straight or are up to date on all the new vaccinations.

Here are just a few tips that you may find useful.

First, make sure that the vet is as good as he/she says they are by investigating the references to the extent. You will find that some vets are in it for the money instead of what is best for your pet. They will tell you that this or that is needed, when it may not be needed at all.

Second, ask as many people as you need to about this vet. Stay away from vets that want to push procedures on you that your pet may not need. If you don't feel comfortable with a vet, there is probably a good reason...go with your gut instinct. I have found in my years of owning pets and raising puppies that an older veternarian is the best. A vet that has been in business for quite a few years is usually the best choice, they have their priorities right and are out for the good of your pet (s). In short...Be careful when choose a vet and good luck in your search.

I use an exercize pen (play pen) for housetraining. I find that the puppy doesn't stress and housetraining goes just as fast with this method as it does using a crate. I also use a small feeder and a 32 oz. water bottle (the lick kind). These are much cleaner and no chance of running out of food or water while no one is home. The exercize pen comes in a variety of heights and is adjust to a large variety of sizes...also it is for indoor / outdoor use, folds down to a flat size which stores very easily in a closet or under the bed. You can purchase an exercize pen as your local PetSmart or Petco pet supply company.

If you choose the traditional method of crate training, I recommend the all wire crates witht he pull out pans. This allows the puppy to maintain a constant temperature and for him / her to see what is going on around them.

The link above is directly to the Double K Groomer's Edge products. I only recommend bathing a puppy / dog every 7-10 days. If you need  to bathe earlier than that you can purchase a waterless shampoo spray from you local WalMart, PetSmart or Petco- that will work just as good as bathing, but won't dry out  your pets skin.

Skunk Remedy:

If you pet gets sprayed by a skunk, don't freak. Just use these ingredients to kill that funky smell.

1 part Baking soda.

1 part Peroxide.

1 part Ivory dish detergent.

Mix thes ingredients to make a shampoo type paste (not too thick or too thin). Cover your pet from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse. Repeat as needed.

Bad breath, clean mouth:

Place 1 (one) drop of Tea Tree Oil in the side of your pets mouth. Caution- Your pet WILL NOT like it!!!

This disinfects the pets mouth, just like using Listerine.

Need to kill fleas and ticks, but don't want to use pesticides. Use this remedy and you won't have to.

Use Ivory, Dawn, Joy dish detergents like a shampoo. Wet your pet thoroughly from tip of nose to tip of tail. Lather pet with Ivory, Dawn or Joy detergent (don't hesitate to make the lather thick). Let pet stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat as needed.

Does your pet suffer from dry skin? Here is a wonderful way to help relieve your pet quickly.

Use Murphy's Oil Soap (wood soap) as a shampoo a couple times the first week for a pet that is experiencing chronic dry skin and adjust as necessary from that point on. This method will put oils back into your pets coat without causing further problems. Murphy's is safe to use on a regular basis.
